Endodontics
Endodontics is a dental treatment that tries to salvage the tooth’s pulp when it becomes infected, decayed or injured, and before the tooth has to be lost. During endodontics, the problem with the pulp and/or root is solved by removing the diseased pulp through the root canals, and cleaning the area and disinfecting the area as long to the end of the root canal system. Once this removal process has been performed, the root canals are sealed with biocompatible material to prevent any future problems in the subject tooth. Follow up appointments will ensure the health of the treated tooth over its lifetime.Take a look at our procedure videos to learn more about endodontics, or book a consultation with us to discuss your endodontic treatment options!
FAQ
Answers to your most
common concerns
What is endodontics?
Endodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on treating the nerves, tissue, blood vessels and surrounding tissues inside your tooth. This typically involves a root canal treatment where the dentist removes the infected pulp thus relieving the pain.
Why choose endodontics?
Endodontics is used to avoid extracting your natural tooth. Endodontics helps us retain natural teeth, which prevents the adjacent teeth from shifting. Root canal therapy promotes natural chewing and biting.
When to choose Endodontics?
If the pulp inside your teeth is inflamed or infected due to a damaged tooth, decay, or gum disease, then you should choose endodontics.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
A crown is often recommended after root canal treatment as the tooth might become a little weak. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for the tooth to recover. It is recommended to consult your dentist for this.
What happens if I don’t get a root canal when recommended?
Doing this may worsen your tooth condition as the infected pulp may spread around damaging the surrounding tooth too in the process. It also leads to severe pain and causes abscesses. In this case, immediate medical attention is recommended.
