Dental access portal
About the Dental Access Portal
The Dental Access Portal provides a central platform for Health Boards to allocate places for routine dental treatment at NHS dental practices across Wales. The new service has been designed and built by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW).
Currently, there is significant variation in Health Board allocation of NHS dentist places, making it hard to measure the true level of demand both locally and nationally. There are also a risk people are not allocated a place based on the length of time they have been without an NHS dentist.
Introducing this service will provide Welsh Government, NHS Wales and partner organisations with a clear picture of the scale of demand for NHS dental services, to improve patient outcomes.
To be eligible to apply through the Dental Access Portal, citizens must:
- Be aged 16 or over
- Not have received routine NHS dental treatment in Wales in the past four years
- Live at an address in Wales for more than six months of the year or attend a Welsh GP practice.
Citizens can use the Dental Access Portal to register their interest for a place with an NHS dentist as an individual or on behalf of others, such as a family member, including someone aged under 16, a friend, neighbour, someone they care for or someone they have a trusted relationship with.
